Using Adobe Premier Pro, his preferred editing tool, he finds time generally at the end of the day to create the final version of his films with ease and certainty.
…The Teacher
“I have learned filmmaking in the school of hard knocks and feel that because of that I am able to convey to classes what works and what doesn’t. Once they have the confidence and ability they can then prove me wrong.” He’s facilitated filmmaking at Tain Royal Academy, Golspie Youth Club, Brora Learning Centre and Invergordon Youth Club.
…The Actor
“Playing the role of Symbiot was an awesome experience. I was pinned under a prosthetic body, which had originally been made for an artificial head to go on. They cut a hole through the back for my head to go through. It was a painful experience as some plastic was sticking into the back of my head but this allowed me to get right into the character of being crazed and frustrated!” Other acting experiences have been garnered through setting up the Invergordon Players where he performs in the Arts Centre in Invergordon 2 or 3 times per year.
…The Businessman
Even though Robert first picked up a cine camera when he was 9-years-old he has always been close to business (his parents were both self employed in Dairying and Health foods) and this has helped him become a self-starter. He gained qualifications at Inverness Technical College during an SNC Business Studies course. Even though he became an infamous marketer and salesperson around Easter Ross and Inverness in the 90’s he has never been far from his creative side.
He set up Films on Fire as a limited company in early 2005 and has made steady progress towards his goal of making his first full-length feature film. “Making short films really teaches you the fundamentals, the essentials that I will use when on the set of a multi-million pound budget project.”
